DOT physical requirements
Federal regulations require you to undergo and pass a regular physical exam under the DOT if you drive and operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV).
DOT physicals for commercial driver's license (CDL)
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requires physical examinations for CDL drivers to ensure the physical and mental health necessary for operating a commercial vehicle.

Although most DOT certifications are valid for two years, your provider may issue a certificate for a shorter amount of time if you have medical conditions that require check-ins and close monitoring.
