When something unexpected happens, you want care fast — with a clear understanding of your insurance coverage and self-pay options. At MD Now® urgent care, we aim to make getting care simple, whether you’re using insurance or paying out of pocket.

Below, we answer some of the most common questions we get about our insurance and self-pay options.

Does MD Now accept insurance?

Yes. MD Now accepts most major insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid in many markets. In general, that means that you will be responsible for your urgent care copay or visit cost, as dictated by your plan.

Coverage can vary, so it’s always a good idea to check your benefits ahead of time.

MD Now accepts a wide range of plans, including:

  • Employer-sponsored insurance
  • Marketplace plans
  • Medicare and Medicaid (varies by location)

Because every plan is different, checking your network and benefits ahead of time can help you better understand your costs.

Does insurance cover urgent care visits?

Yes, most insurance plans have coverage for urgent care visits. The costs you can expect will depend on:

  • Your copay
  • Your deductible
  • Whether the clinic is in your coverage network

Urgent care is often a more affordable covered option than the emergency room, while still giving you convenient access to care.

Is urgent care a good option if you don’t have insurance?

Yes. You do not need insurance to visit urgent care. MD Now offers self-pay pricing options, so you can get care even if you’re uninsured. Compared to the emergency room, urgent care typically offers:

  • Lower overall costs
  • Transparent pricing
  • Faster access to care

Emergency rooms are open 24/7 and are always an option when you need care. Because of the resources and expertise available, ER visits may often involve higher costs and longer wait times. MD Now bridges the gap between your primary care provider and the emergency room to get you the care you need. For many non-life-threatening conditions, urgent care is a practical choice. Urgent care costs without insurance depend on what type of visit you need, and whether you need additional services.

Self-pay pricing means you pay directly for your visit instead of billing insurance. Our self-pay pricing typically includes a base visit fee with additional charges for services such as imaging, testing or other procedures as needed. Please note that self-pay pricing cannot be combined with insurance, and self-pay visits cannot be submitted to insurance later for reimbursement.

Our goal in offering these self-pay options is to provide solutions if you want clarity and control over your healthcare costs, or if you are not currently covered by insurance.

Does urgent care bill you later without insurance?

In most cases, no. For self-pay visits at MD Now:

  • Payment is typically collected at the time of service
  • Any additional charges (if applicable) are explained clearly

This helps avoid unexpected bills and keeps the process straightforward.

How much is an X-ray at urgent care without insurance?

If an X-ray is needed, it’s typically added to the base visit cost. The total cost depends on:

  • The type of X-ray
  • The area being imaged

MD Now clinics can help explain pricing, so you know what to expect.

How much is an STD test at urgent care without insurance?

STD testing costs vary based on:

  • The type of test
  • The number of tests performed

If you have questions about specific testing costs, the clinic team can help guide you.
